The University of Toledo (UT) Climate Survey, developed by the Office of Institutional Research and led by the Office of Equity and Diversity, is for students, faculty, and staff of the UT campus to get a sense of the overall climate at UT and to determine ways to improve the culture of the UT community. The faculty and staff portion of the survey is also being used to provide data for a three year NSF funded grant called the Institutions Developing Excellence in Academic Leadership (IDEAL) designed to encourage career advancement of women and underrepresented minorities in STEM areas at UT.
The UT Climate Survey utilizes likert scales, multiple choice, and fill-in selections covering areas such as perception of overall climate, acceptance, diversity-related services, courses, programs and/or organizations, attitudes and feelings toward others, discrimination and harassment, and awareness.
The UT Climate survey will be conducted again in two years, and every two thereafter.
The student portion of the survey was conducted from April 6, 2010 to April 27, 2010 and had a response rate of 7.7%. The faculty and staff portion of the survey was conducted from April 21, 2010 to May 11, 2010 and had a response rate of 25.4%.
The student portion of the survey was conducted from April 2, 2012 to May, 9, 2012 and had a response rate of 11.4%. The faculty and staff portion of the survey was conducted from April 16, 2012 to April 30, 2012 and had a response rate of 21%.
The student portion of the survey was conducted from March 31, 2014 to May 2, 2014 and had a response rate of 13.5%. The faculty and staff portion of the survey was conducted from March 31, 2014 to May 2, 2014 and had a response rate of 27%.
Designed by CIRP at UCLA, the survey captures initial input information of new first-year freshmen before they enter the University. The survey was conducted in 2005, 2007, 2011, and 2013. You can read the latest report here.
Also designed by CIRP at UCLA, the YFCY captures the experiences of freshman students at the end of their first year in college. The survey was first administered in April 2005 and was conducted annually through 2008. This survey will be switched to a biennial cycle in the future.
This is a locally-designed annual survey initiated in 2007 as a result of the President's commission on student centeredness. The survey captures students' levels of satisfaction in major areas of academic and student services provided by the University. The latest one was conducted in Spring, 2014.
In early 2005, the O&LD Needs Analysis Survey was developed and disseminated to gather input from University of Toledo employees to determine what professional and personal development topic areas are necessary to successfully fulfill their job duties. The department of O&LD wanted to gather this information to determine what courses would be most beneficial to offer.
A nationally-recognized survey on student engagement, NSSE was designed to assess the extent to which students are engaged in educationally purposeful activities that contribute to their learning and success during college (Kuh et al., 2001). The survey was administered annually first and then switched biennially since 2002. The most recent administration was in March 2013. The 2015 administration will start in February.
